The Business area is popular both with existing and newer members looking to develop networking contacts, business skills and knowledge. JCIA maintains strong links with the local business community and the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce. Events are often guest speakers or site visits.

The biggest event of the year in this area is the Grampian Industrialist Award & Dinner. This prestigious annual business award is managed independently by JCIA's nominated Project Director and team. For more information, see the Grampian Industrialist event page or email industrialist@jciaberdeen.org.uk.

The Community area of activity offers community-related projects such as Speak to Santa and Blood Donating. Other local organisations are supported with their events, such as the provision of stewards for the Aberdeen City Walkathon.

Speak to Santa

This 'feel-good' event is organised by JCI Aberdeen in December every year. Run over 2 evenings, it provides the opportunity for young children to telephone Santa and his helpers and tell him what they would like for Christmas. With a pre-event marketing campaign of press releases, mailshots to local primary schools and distribution of leaflets to Christmas shoppers, the event is promoted to the target audience. Local organisations generously donate the items necessary to run the project (including telephone lines and office space).

While Santa is busy talking to the children, JCIA members and friends create the illusion of Santa's Grotto with reindeer, jingle bells and general elvish workshop bustle. Good fun for all those participating at both ends of the phone! Over the years, the Speak to Santa project has enjoyed considerable local and national press attention, whilst JCI Aberdeen have assisted other local JCI associations in staging the same event.
